363 Days To Go

Today I signed up for Ironman Arizona 2013. November 17th, 2013.  I thought it might be a good idea to blog about the year leading up to the race and be able to look back on things if I lose motivation or what ever could happen during 140.6 training.

Firstly, this race sold out in 40 seconds! That's pretty crazy. I had my husband, Andy, sign me up while I was at work and he was super diligent and got me in! I will find out in a year whether he is totally awesome or totally not awesome. :)

Where am I starting from? I've done three triathlons that would be classified as sprint distances.

Swim: I feel I have pretty good freestyle swim form for someone who has not had lessons or anything. I choose not to do flip turns because the gym pool is always packed. I plan to sign up for Master's Swim class and later I will go to MeetUp swim things that do swimming in the ocean.

Bike: The bicycle will be the one thing I'm not particularly worried about. In September 2012 I did Cycle Oregon for a total of 400ish miles over 7 days. Riding between 60-80 miles is not too much of a problem for me when it's fully supported. I will just have to condition myself to not need to stop for lunch :) My dad will be my riding partner for this, big time. He is way better than me and I can still improve.

Run: I suck at running. I am signed up for a 13.1 in January 2013, so I have a few months to get better at running and learn to like it. I plan to take this slow and not get frustrated with my turtle slow speed (currently about 11:30min/mi)

I plan to do "Be Iron Fit" by Fink, the competitive plan for now. This plan will start in April, in the meantime I am going to focus on learning to run better and also do strength training. That's all for now!
